Memphis In May 2012

Chris and I, as well as the rest of our Bushwood BBQ team, traveled to Memphis to compete in all the categories at Memphis In May again this year.  We had 5 days of stress, fun, pressure, heat, FOOD, entertainment, and much, much more.  The team did so well this year, with our highest place ever: 5th in Beef out of 105 entries.  It also ended up being the top brisket in the competition because the 4 ahead of us all turned in a fillet or ribeye.  Really a huge deal for the restaurant they just opened.

Chris waits to turn in 1 of 3 sauces he made.

The Turn-In Box must be perfect!

The winning brisket!

They will always find something fun to do..

like swimming in a cooler and wrestling your best bud.

Happy Mother's Day

Chris and the boys took me to brunch for Mother's Day.  We had a great day spending time together.  Check out my thumbprint necklace Adam made me at church!

Adam Graduates PreSchool

Last Day Fun

I can't believe it.  Preschool is over for Adam.  He'll be a Kindergartner in the fall.  Where has the time gone?  We were very pleased with his preschool and his teacher this year.  We put him in it for a chance to be social with kids his age and to learn the ins and outs of being in a classroom.  I think he got a smiley face in his behavior chart all but 2-3 times this year.  His teacher gushed about how helpful he was and how the other kids looked up to him all year.  Those are some things a parent can really take pride in.

Adam's First Trophy

After this season of T-Ball, we had a celebration where the coaches gave out trophies.  Adam was so excited!   We were so proud of how hard he played this year and how much progress he made.  Maybe he will play for the real Red Sox one day??!!

We Got A Little Rain

This is after the heavens opened up on us for about an hour. That used to be the field behind our house.    Our home was an island until the water receeded. Thank goodness we had no damage. Our neighbor was not so lucky. Their house had a river running through it.

Poor Layla

Our unfortunate dog, Layla, got out a while back and when she does, it's a game to get her back.  She was unlucky this time and got into an unfenced yard with a tied dog who she got too close to.  It tore her up.  We've since been keeping the vet in good business.  First she had to have about 20+ stitches to close up all the gashes around her neck and a drain put in a silver-dollar size hole in her side.  Then, we found our she had heart worms through the course of treating her.  Finally, she developed an infection that abscessed deep in her shoulder after being fine for 2 weeks.  She had to go under again for the vet to lance it and put another drain in.  A month later, things are getting back to normal.  We are treating for heartworms, she's still on antibiotics, and her hair is finally growing back over most of the scars.
