Adam Completes TBall Season

Adam had a great first season of TBall.  He was an awesome hitter who we could count on to hit it past 2nd base consistently and who worked really hard on fielding.  He was all over the balls that came right to him, but had no interest in the football tackles the other kids were dishing out fighting over the ball.  As the season went on, the pileups lessened and the kids really learned the the fundamentals of the game.  Like...don't chase your own ball after you hit it; you have to run to first, first; you cannot run the bases with your bat. 

Adam has been practicing baseball with his Mema and Pop since birth, so he was well aware of the rules from day one.

Kayaking the Pontchartrain

In June, we took a Saturday to go kayak on Lake Pontchartrain, north of New Orleans.  It's a little salty because it opens up to the Gulf which was a new adventure for us.  We had a headwind going out to one point, but that made it super easy to come back to the dock.  We saw jumping/flying fish and we all had a blast hanging out together all day.  We also swam at the public beach, played in the sprayground, and ate a picnic lunch.  Good times.

We've Been Doing Stuff...

I haven't posted in awhile, not because nothing has been happening, but because too much has been happening.  Here's a quick recap:

Caleb fell in the garage and chipped his front tooth.  Will be visiting the dentist to get it smoothed down and sealed.  Fun!
Chris and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary!!  We went out to eat at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and then to see the movie  Super 8.  Two things we love to do...eat and watch movies. 

Our new patio furniture!!!!!  This stuff will last forever!!

Adam got sick for about 5 days with all kinds of symptoms.  He's back to normal now.

Adam can now swim across his great-grandparents pool, about 10 yards with breathing.  He's been working hard in the pool. 

Caleb can now glide to the steps and come up for air.  He's having a blast in the water too.  

Memphis In May...BBQ that is!

Mid May, Chris and I headed with a team of friends to compete in the spectacular that is Memphis In May.  Overall, the team did really well this year...10th in seafood, 8th in vinegar sauce, and 11th in wings.  I don't even know out of how many...at least 100 per category.  I also can't explain how big this festival is and how much pressure is built up in the cooking.  It was 5 days full of the best food, good friends, and a ton of competition. 

Downtown Memphis was partially under water so they moved the competition this year to a stadium lot.

Visiting Papaw in North Carolina

We haven't been home in over a month it feels like.  Here's what we've been doing.  At the end of April, me, my mom, my sister, and the boys flew to North Carolina to celebrate my papaw's 94th  birthday. It's so great to see him light up around the boys.

While visiting Papaw, we always go next door to Guilford College.  This is a small liberal arts college where he was a professor for 30+ years and where my mom went to college.  It's really a campus that my brother and sister and I grew up on. 

They are always showcasing art and this was a gigantic sculpture of sticks and limbs freestanding without nails, just woven together.  There were rooms and nooks to hide in. So neat.

Easter 2011

Easter was so much fun this year with both boys getting totally into it.  We've been practicing egg hunting for weeks now.
